S O B TM in Action
S O B TM abides by the spirit of Ecological Integrity at Ontario Parks, whether on public or private land. The terrain covered is a blend of on and off trail exploration. S O B TM explores rarely traveled terrain, seeking signs of Bigfoot’s presence and passage.
S O B TM offers, during cold weather months two field excursions per month and during the warm weather months, three field excursions per month. Field investigations alternate between Saturdays and Sundays. As areas of promise are identified, field excursions will be balanced between those found and the exploration of new areas. S O B TM conducts over-night vigils within or on the periphery of areas indicating promise as a substitute for daytime excursions. Infrequently, S O B TM members are called to support Ontario Wildlife Field Research groups in the investigation of areas outside of S O B’s current investigative range.
S O B TM Field Investigations
A typical day in the field lasts three to five hours and covers as many kilometers when performing reconnaissance, whereas the distance traveled is less while conducting an in-depth study of items and areas of interest.
Field investigations are tailored to accommodate the time and physical constraints of members.
Typical field investigations begin with a call to assemble at a rally point.
On the day, an organizing meeting is held. That meeting outlines the day’s purpose and objectives, tasks are assigned, a map review is conducted, areas of focus and of rendezvous are identified, information related to communications, timings, supports and services available while in the field is provided. A review of standard operating procedures to be followed if specific circumstances occur.
Teams then proceed to their assigned starting points, and accomplish the tasks that achieve the investigative objectives.
Team leaders and team members than re-rally, recap the day’s events, download digital media to a central server, evaluate the areas covered for possible return, and over a beverage and dinner, share information and ideas.
